Facebook crunches numbers of 2013 Superbowl team fans

Facebook crawled through fan data and revealed some insights about NFL fans. Some of the more interesting points:

  • 10% of Americans express support for a team on Facebook
  • Teams see a surge in new fan likes after a playoff win
  • The Steelers, Cowboys, and Packers have the most non-local fans

Facebook is basing their information on users who like an NFL team page on the site. Here is a map of the most popular teams in each county of the USA:

Nice to see the Seahawks fulling representing the Northwest.  California is pretty divided between 49ers, Raiders and Chargers. Large areas of the middle of the country are all about the Broncos and Cowboys. Can you tell than Montana doesn’t have a pro football team?

The final piece of data we found interesting was a map with fan data filtered down to just the 2 teams remaining in the Superbowl this year: the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. Here’s how the country’s support is split on Facebook:
